Judaism

Definition of Judaism as it relates to Religions, Monotheism, Bible, World Religions

Judaism is a monotheistic religion centered on the belief in a single, omniscient and benevolent God who entered into a covenant with the ancient Israelites. This covenant forms the basis of Jewish law and practice, as recorded in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), which consists of three parts: the Torah (Five Books of Moses), the Nevi'im (Prophets) and the Ketuvim (Writings). The Torah is considered the most sacred text in Judaism and serves as the foundation for Jewish ethics, rituals, and customs. Judaism emphasizes the importance of studying and interpreting religious texts, engaging in regular prayer, observing holy days and festivals, performing good deeds (mitzvot), and leading an ethical life guided by the principles of justice and compassion. The religion also places great importance on community and family, with synagogues serving as central gathering places for worship, study, and social events. As a child category of Monotheism and Bible within World Religions, Judaism is distinguished by its unique historical and cultural heritage, its emphasis on law and practice, and its enduring influence on Western civilization. Judaism has played a significant role in shaping the religious and philosophical traditions of Christianity and Islam, as well as contributing to the development of modern legal and political systems. Despite facing persecution and discrimination throughout history, Judaism has managed to preserve its distinct identity and traditions, making it one of the world's oldest and most enduring religions.
