Judaism

Definition of Judaism as it relates to Religions, Monotheism, Bible, Hebrew Bible, Torah

Judaism is a monotheistic religion rooted in the Hebrew Bible, which is also known as the Tanakh in Jewish tradition. At its core, Judaism emphasizes the belief in one God, Yahweh, who established a special covenant with the people of Israel through the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. The Torah, as the first five books of the Hebrew Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy), holds immense significance in Judaism. It not only contains the foundational stories of the Jewish people but also lays down laws and commandments that guide various aspects of Jewish life, belief, and practice. Judaism can be seen as an outgrowth of the Torah's teachings, further elaborating and interpreting its principles within a rich cultural and historical context. While other religions may also draw from the Torah and Hebrew Bible, Judaism is unique in its unbroken lineage and deep connection to the text, as well as the traditions, customs, and rituals that have evolved around it. In essence, Judaism represents a distinct religious tradition built upon the teachings of the Torah within the broader context of monotheistic religions that revere the Hebrew Bible.
