Polytheism

Definition of Polytheism as it relates to Religions, Agnosticism

Polytheism refers to religious systems that involve belief in and worship of multiple deities, each with distinct attributes and spheres of influence. These gods and goddesses often form complex hierarchies or pantheons, and may be associated with natural elements, human emotions, moral values, or social institutions. Polytheistic religions can vary widely in their practices, beliefs, and organizational structures, but they share a common recognition of multiple divine entities that interact with the world and with each other. Examples of polytheistic religions include Hinduism, ancient Greek religion, Norse paganism, and many indigenous traditions around the world. Polytheism contrasts with monotheism, which posits the existence of a single deity, and with nontheism, which denies or ignores the existence of any divine beings.
