Theism

Definition of Theism as it relates to Religions, Agnosticism, Polytheism

Theism, as it relates to the hierarchy of Religions/Agnosticism/Polytheism, refers to the belief in one or multiple gods who are personal and involved in the world. This contrasts with deism, which posits a distant and impersonal god, and with polytheism, which involves multiple distinct gods with varying levels of involvement in the world. Theism is not limited to any one religion and can be found in many different religious traditions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and various forms of Hinduism. It is also distinct from agnosticism, which holds that the existence or non-existence of gods is unknown or unknowable. In this hierarchy, theism is a specific belief system that can be found within the broader category of religion, and it relates to the concepts of both polytheism and agnosticism in that it posits the existence of personal and involved gods, rather than impersonal forces or no gods at all.
