Definition of Islam as it relates to Religions, Monotheism, Muhammad, Prophet Muhammad

Islam, as the religion founded by Prophet Muhammad, represents the culmination of monotheistic faiths within the Abrahamic tradition. It is a religion that emphasizes the worship of one God (Allah in Arabic) and follows the teachings and life of Prophet Muhammad as recorded in the holy book of Islam, the Quran. The teachings of Islam build upon the monotheistic beliefs of Judaism and Christianity, recognizing many of the same prophets including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, while emphasizing that Prophet Muhammad is the last and final messenger of God. The religion places a strong emphasis on social justice, charity, and community, as well as personal spiritual development through daily prayer, fasting during Ramadan, and pilgrimage to Mecca for those who are able. Islam, therefore, fits into the broader categories of Religions and Monotheism by providing a unique expression of belief in one God, and further emphasizes the importance of Muhammad as both a prophet and a moral exemplar within the Islamic tradition.
