Buddhism

Definition of Buddhism as it relates to Religions, Agnosticism

Buddhism is an ancient Eastern religion founded by Siddhartha Gautama, also known as Buddha, in the 5th century BCE. It emphasizes mindfulness, meditation, and moral conduct to achieve spiritual enlightenment and liberation from the cycle of rebirth and suffering. Rooted in Indian philosophy, it shares similarities with other Eastern religions such as Hinduism and Jainism. However, unlike Agnosticism, which holds that the existence of God or gods is unknowable, Buddhism does not concern itself with the concept of a deity, focusing instead on personal spiritual growth and self-realization. Nevertheless, it shares common ground with many other religions in promoting compassion, ethical behavior, and the pursuit of inner peace.
