Islam

Definition of Islam as it relates to Religions, Monotheism, Muhammad, Kaaba

Islam, as a religion, is centered around the belief in one God (Monotheism) and the teachings of Muhammad. At the heart of Islamic practice is the Kaaba, a holy site located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Muslims from around the world face the Kaaba during their daily prayers. The Kaaba holds great significance in Islam as it is considered to be the holiest place on earth and the direction that all Muslims should face during prayer. The foundation of Islam was laid by Muhammad, who received revelations from God through the archangel Gabriel. These revelations form the basis of the Islamic holy book, the Quran. In this context, Islam can be seen as the culmination of the monotheistic tradition that began with Abraham and was passed down through Moses and Jesus. As such, it is a religion that emphasizes the unity and oneness of God, and the importance of following His commands as revealed in the Quran.
