Instructional Design
Instructional Design refers to the systematic and reflective process of translating principles of learning and instruction into plans for instructional materials, activities, information resources, and evaluation. It involves creating learning experiences that make the most effective use of technology and traditional media to improve learner engagement, interaction and performance. In an academic context it is often applied in the design of courses whether they are delivered face-to-face or through distance learning. Instructional designers work closely with subject matter experts, educators, and researchers to develop instructional materials and activities that align with learning objectives and outcomes, and that are accessible and inclusive for all learners. An individual who specializes in this field may hold a degree in education, instructional design, or a related field, and they may work in a variety of settings including higher education, K-12 schools, corporations, and government agencies.
