Special Education refers to instructional practices and services designed to support students with diverse learning needs, including those with physical, sensory, cognitive, emotional, and intellectual disabilities. Special education teachers collaborate with general education teachers, families, and related service providers to create individualized education programs (IEPs) that address each student's unique strengths and challenges. These programs may include accommodations, modifications, and specialized instruction in areas such as communication, social skills, self-care, and academics. Special education is guided by federal laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which mandates a free appropriate public education for all eligible students with disabilities.
