Special Education

Definition of Special Education as it relates to Education, Adult Education, Learning Disabilities

Special Education refers to an education system specifically designed to address the unique learning needs of individuals with disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, physical impairments, sensory impairments, autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disabilities, and emotional or behavioral disorders. It is a specialized field within education that focuses on providing tailored instruction, support services, and accommodations to help students with disabilities achieve their full potential in an inclusive and supportive educational environment. Special Education professionals work closely with students, families, and other educators to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) that outline specific goals, strategies, and resources for each student. This approach emphasizes the importance of understanding each learner's unique abilities, challenges, and needs, and providing them with the tools and support necessary to succeed in their educational journey.
