Paleontology

Definition of Paleontology as it relates to Science, Earth Science, Zoology

Paleontology focuses on the study of life that existed prior to, and sometimes including, the start of the Holocene Epoch roughly 11,700 years ago. It encompasses various facets such as plant and animal fossils, along with their behaviors, environments, and interactions with each other. As part of Zoology, a subfield of Earth Science within the broader scope of Science, Paleontology sheds light on ancient ecosystems and evolutionary processes, contributing to our understanding of biospheres past and present.
