Paleontology
Paleontology is the scientific study of life that existed prior to, and sometimes including, the start of the Holocene Epoch roughly 11,700 years ago. It includes the examination of plant and animal fossils, which are the remains or impressions of prehistoric organisms preserved in petrified form or as a mold or cast in rock. Reptile fossils, specifically, provide valuable insights into the evolutionary history of reptiles and their ecological roles throughout time. By studying these ancient animals, paleontologists aim to understand the dynamics of ecosystems, how life has evolved over geologic time, and the Earth's environmental conditions during past periods. Ultimately, paleontology offers a window into the distant past, shedding light on the origins and development of life on our planet.
