Definition of Paleontology as it relates to Animals, Fossil Animals, Mammal Fossils

Paleontology is the scientific study of life that existed prior to, and sometimes including, the start of the Holocene Epoch roughly 11,700 years ago. It includes the examination of plants, animals, and other organisms, notably through the fossil record. This field encompasses the analysis of extinct mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish, insects, and plants, among others, providing valuable insights into the Earth's biosphere across deep time. Paleontology also investigates the evolutionary history of life forms, their behaviors, ecological relationships, and how they have been influenced by environmental changes over geological timescales.
