Definition of Paleontology as it relates to Animals, Fossil Animals, Animal Anatomy
Paleontology is the scientific study of life that existed prior to, and sometimes including, the start of the Holocene Epoch roughly 11,700 years ago. It includes the examination of plant and animal fossils—particularly the study of their anatomy, distribution, and evolutionary history. This field encompasses a variety of scientific disciplines such as biology, geology, and anthropology to reconstruct past environments and understand the processes that have shaped biodiversity on Earth. Paleontologists often focus on specific groups of organisms or time periods, contributing to our understanding of the history of life and the natural world.
