Definition of Art History as it relates to Books, History Books, Literary Criticism

Art History is a discipline dedicated to the study and interpretation of visual art throughout history, encompassing various periods, styles, regions, and mediums. It involves rigorous examination and analysis of artistic creations within their historical, cultural, and social contexts, integrating perspectives from other fields such as literature, philosophy, anthropology, archaeology, and religion. Art History aims to understand the evolution of artistic expressions over time, while shedding light on the creative processes, motivations, and intentions of artists, patrons, and audiences. In essence, Art History is the exploration and appreciation of visual culture from a scholarly standpoint.
