Expressionism
Bauhaus is an artistic movement that emerged in Germany in the early 20th century, characterized by its emphasis on simplicity, functionality, and the integration of arts and crafts. It sought to break down traditional barriers between fine and applied arts, and to create a Gesamtkunstwerk, or "total work of art," that encompassed all aspects of design. Bauhaus was influenced by a variety of movements, including Art Nouveau, Cubism, and Dada, and it in turn had a profound impact on modern art and design. The movement's approach to design was rooted in the belief that form should follow function, and that art should serve a practical purpose. Bauhaus artists and designers were known for their use of geometric shapes, primary colors, and industrial materials, such as steel, glass, and concrete. They believed that good design could improve people's lives by making everyday objects more beautiful and functional.
