Definition of Visual Arts as it relates to Art, Fauvist Art, Post Impressionism

Expressionism is an artistic movement and style characterized by the distortion and exaggeration of subject matter in order to convey strong emotional or psychological states. Originating in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century, Expressionism encompasses a wide range of media including painting, printmaking, sculpture, and film. It is often associated with Fauvist Art and Post-Impressionism due to its emphasis on bold colors, simplified forms, and the subjective interpretation of reality. In Expressionism, the artist's personal experiences and emotions take precedence over objective representation, resulting in works that are highly expressive and evocative. The movement had a significant impact on subsequent artistic developments, including Abstract Expressionism and Neo-Expressionism.
