Definition of Visual Arts as it relates to Art, Conceptual Art, Surrealism

Expressionism is an artistic movement and style characterized by the distortion of form, exaggeration of emotion, and vibrant use of color to convey meaning and evoke feeling. It emerged in the early 20th century as a response to the rapidly changing world and a desire to express inner experience and subjective perceptions. Expressionist artists sought to break away from traditional artistic conventions and explore new modes of representation, often using bold, gestural brushstrokes, fragmented forms, and intense contrasts to create dynamic and emotionally charged works. This movement encompasses various art forms, including painting, sculpture, literature, theater, and film, and has had a lasting impact on the development of modern and contemporary art.
