Modern Art

Definition of Modern Art as it relates to Art, Conceptual Art, Surrealism

Surrealism: A cultural movement originating in the early 20th century, characterized by its exploration of the unconscious mind and dreams through art, literature, and philosophy. Surrealism rejects rational thought and embraces the irrational, absurd, and fantastical as a means to challenge societal norms and expectations. It is often associated with dream-like landscapes, unexpected juxtapositions, and subconscious symbolism, and has greatly influenced subsequent movements in art and literature, including Conceptual Art and Postmodern Art. Surrealist works seek to disrupt the boundary between reality and imagination, inviting viewers to question their perceptions and explore new possibilities.
