Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, algae, and parasites. It investigates their structure, function, classification, ecology, and genetic makeup, as well as how they interact with one another and their environments. As a key area within biology, it sheds light on fundamental biological processes, disease causation and transmission, food safety, environmental protection, and industrial applications. It thus forms an integral part of life science and overall scientific inquiry.
