Evolution

Definition of Evolution as it relates to Science, Life Science

Evolution: A scientific field dedicated to studying the changes in living organisms over time. It encompasses the processes and mechanisms underlying biological diversity, including genetic variation, natural selection, adaptation, speciation, and extinction. Evolutionary biologists draw on principles from genetics, molecular biology, ecology, geology, and paleontology to understand how life has evolved on Earth since its origin over 3.5 billion years ago. The theory of evolution provides a unifying framework for understanding the history and diversity of life, as well as our own origins and relationship to other species. It is a fundamental concept in modern biology and underpins much of our understanding of medicine, agriculture, conservation, and biodiversity.
