Definition of Secondary Education as it relates to Education, Special Education, Cultural Studies Education

Secondary Education: The stage of education following elementary and middle school levels, typically encompassing grades 9-12 in the United States. This phase of education is characterized by increasing specialization, with students selecting coursework within specific subject areas such as English, mathematics, science, social studies, and foreign languages. In addition to traditional academic subjects, secondary education may also include vocational and technical training, physical education, and elective courses in the arts or other subjects. Special Education services are often provided for students with disabilities at this level, tailored to meet their individual needs and ensure equal access to educational opportunities. Cultural Studies Education is an interdisciplinary approach that emphasizes the study of culture and its impact on society, history, politics, and economics. It may be integrated into secondary education curricula through the teaching of literature, history, anthropology, sociology, and other subjects.
