Definition of Secondary Education as it relates to Education, Academic Degrees, Teacher Training

Secondary Education: The stage of education following primary school and preceding university, typically encompassing grades 9-12 in the United States. This level of education is focused on preparing students for higher education or entry into the workforce through the development of advanced academic skills, critical thinking abilities, and subject matter expertise in specific areas such as mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies. Secondary Education often includes opportunities for student to specialize in a particular area of interest through Advanced Placement (AP) courses, honors programs, or vocational training. Additionally, secondary education teachers are required to have at least a bachelor's degree and complete teacher training programs that include supervised classroom experience and instruction on pedagogical methods.
