Definition of Physical Education as it relates to Education, Elementary Education, Montessori Education
Physical Education (PE): A systematic approach to teaching and learning motor skills, fitness concepts, and health-related behaviors through planned physical activity in an educational setting. It encompasses various activities designed to develop physical competence, enhance self-esteem, promote healthful living, and encourage active lifestyles for all students. PE programs can be found in traditional elementary education as well as alternative education systems such as Montessori Education. The goal of PE is to provide opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for lifelong physical activity and health.
