Astrobiology

Definition of Astrobiology as it relates to Science, Life Science, Biology

Astrobiology is the study of life beyond Earth, exploring how it might arise, survive, and evolve in conditions different from those on our home planet. This field brings together aspects of biology, chemistry, geology, physics, and astronomy to examine potential biosignatures in the solar system and beyond, including extreme environments where life might thrive on Earth and other celestial bodies. Research in astrobiology helps scientists better understand the conditions necessary for life as well as our place in the universe. In the hierarchy of Science/Life Science/Biology, Astrobiology represents a specialized branch that reaches beyond traditional biological boundaries to consider life from an interdisciplinary and cosmic perspective.
