Astrobiology

Definition of Astrobiology as it relates to Science, Astronomy, Cosmology

Astrobiology is the study of the origin, evolution, and distribution of life in the universe. This field combines aspects of biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and astronomy to explore the conditions necessary for life to exist and how it might arise elsewhere in the cosmos. As part of cosmology, astrobiology seeks to understand the potential for life beyond Earth by examining celestial bodies such as planets, moons, and asteroids in our own solar system and beyond. It also involves studying extremophiles, organisms that can survive in harsh environments, to better understand how life might adapt to different conditions. In this way, astrobiology helps us expand our understanding of the universe and our place within it.
