Surrealism

Definition of Surrealism as it relates to Art, Conceptual Art, Modern Art

Lyrical Abstraction refers to an art movement characterized by its emphasis on expressing subjective emotions, sensations and inner feelings through non-representational means. It is rooted in the Modern Art tradition, but diverges from Conceptual Art's focus on ideas over aesthetics. Lyrical Abstractionists use color, form, and line to create works that evoke a mood or atmosphere, rather than depicting recognizable objects or scenes. The movement is characterized by its expressive use of color, loose brushwork, and emphasis on the artist's hand. It emerged in the early 20th century as a response to the rigid formalism of Cubism and Geometric Abstraction, and has continued to be a vital force in contemporary art.
