Mammals

Definition of Mammals as it relates to Animals, Zoo Animals

Mammals are warm-blooded, vertebrate animals characterized by the presence of mammary glands for nursing their young, hair or fur, and three middle ear bones. They belong to the class Mammalia, which is divided into several orders, such as primates (monkeys, apes, humans), rodents (rats, mice, squirrels), lagomorphs (rabbits, hares), carnivores (dogs, cats, bears), ungulates (hoofed animals like deer and horses), cetaceans (whales and dolphins), sirenians (manatees and dugongs), and marsupials (kangaroos, opossums). Mammals inhabit various environments across the world, from forests and grasslands to deserts, oceans, and even caves. They exhibit a diverse range of behaviors, diets, and social structures, with some being solitary while others live in groups. Many mammals are also known as zoo animals since they are commonly featured in zoos around the world for conservation, education, and entertainment purposes.
