Definition of American League as it relates to Sports, Major League Baseball, Sports Pacific League, West Division

The American League in the West Division of the Sports Pacific League of Major League Baseball is composed of teams located on the western coast of North America. Established in 1901, it is one of two leagues that make up the MLB along with the National League. The American League features a designated hitter (DH) who bats in place of the pitcher, while the National League does not. The West Division of the American League consists of five teams: the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers. These teams compete against each other during the regular season, with the division winner earning a spot in the postseason playoffs. The American League West Division shares the Pacific time zone with the Sports Pacific League's other divisions: the National League West and the American League Central. The shared time zone facilitates scheduling interleague games between teams within these divisions, allowing fans to enjoy competitive matchups throughout the season.
