The "American League" subcategory under the Oakland Athletics team in Major League Baseball is comprised of all the teams that are part of the American League division. This league, along with the National League, makes up the entirety of Major League Baseball. The American League is further divided into three divisions: East, Central, and West. Each year, the winners of each division and a wild card team compete in the postseason for the chance to play in the World Series. Notable teams within the American League include the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago White Sox. The Oakland Athletics are one of the 15 teams that make up this league, competing in the West division alongside the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers.
