Chemistry

Definition of Chemistry as it relates to Science, Mathematics, Biochemistry

Chemistry, as part of Biochemistry within the Science and Mathematics hierarchy, focuses on the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate to form other substances, and how substances interact with energy. It is concerned with the composition, structure, and properties of substances and various fundamental laws related to them. Chemistry dives into understanding atoms and their interactions, chemical reactions and their mechanisms and energies, as well as the formation and decay of larger structures composed of atoms – molecules and crystals. In this context, it plays a crucial role in Biochemistry by providing essential knowledge about the structure, function, and interactions of biological macromolecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids.
