Definition of Oceanography as it relates to Science, Environmental Science, Marine Biology

Oceanography is the interdisciplinary scientific study of the Earth's oceans, covering a wide range of topics including marine biology, chemistry, physics, and geology. It examines the ocean's physical and chemical properties, its origin and history, the various life forms it supports, and its role in global climate and weather patterns. As a subdiscipline of marine biology, oceanography is concerned with understanding the complex interactions between the ocean and all other components of the Earth system, making it an integral part of both environmental science and science as a whole. By exploring the vast and largely uncharted depths of the world's oceans, oceanographers seek to expand our knowledge of this crucial component of our planet and its many interconnections with the rest of the natural world.
