Abstract Expressionism
Minimalist Art: A visual language characterized by simplicity and geometric abstraction, often employing stark contrasts and repetition, minimalism emerged as an art movement in the mid-twentieth century. As a reaction against abstract expressionism's emphasis on emotion, minimalist artists aimed to reduce their works to their fundamental components, rejecting conventional notions of composition and representation. Rooted in modernist principles, minimalism shares affinities with other contemporary movements such as Dada, which similarly sought to challenge established artistic norms and conventions. In doing so, both minimalism and dada have left an indelible mark on the trajectory of art history, shaping subsequent developments in conceptual and postmodern art practices.
