Cattle

Definition of Cattle as it relates to Animals, Wildlife, Domestic Animals

Cattle are large, hoofed mammals that originated from wild species in Africa and Asia, but are now primarily domesticated and raised around the world as livestock for meat, milk, leather, and labor. They belong to the family Bovidae and the genus Bos, with two main species being Bos taurus (European cattle) and Bos indicus (Zebu). Cattle are social animals that live in herds and have a strong hierarchy led by a dominant male, or bull. They have a complex digestive system that allows them to ferment and break down plant material, making them effective grazers of grasslands and rangelands. Cattle are also used for draft power, transportation, and recreation, and they have played significant roles in human cultures, religions, and economies throughout history.
