Harvestmen

Definition of Harvestmen as it relates to Animals, Arachnids, Amblypygi

Harvestmen, also known as Opiliones, are small arachnids belonging to the order Arachnida. They are characterized by their oval-shaped bodies, long, spindly legs, and lack of venom glands. Harvestmen are often mistaken for spiders due to their similar appearance, but they are actually more closely related to scorpions and mites. Unlike spiders, harvestmen do not have the ability to spin webs or inject venom. Instead, they are primarily scavengers, feeding on dead insects and other organic matter. Harvestmen can be found in a variety of habitats around the world, including forests, grasslands, and caves. They are most active at night and are known for their ability to regenerate lost legs. Despite their small size, harvestmen play an important role in the ecosystem as decomposers and predators of smaller insects.
