Oxyopidae

Definition of Oxyopidae as it relates to Animals, Arachnids, Amblypygi, Harvestmen

Oxyopidae, also known as lynx spiders, are a family within the arachnid order Araneae. These agile hunters primarily prey on other insects and spiders, capturing them with their long front legs. They typically inhabit vegetation, where they patiently wait for prey to pass by. Their elongated bodies vary in color, often featuring intricate patterns that help camouflage them within their environment. Oxyopidae members possess six eyes arranged in three rows and lack the venomous fangs found in many other spider families. This group is found worldwide but tends to be more diverse in warmer regions.
