Cosmology
Cosmology is the study of the origins, evolution, and structure of the universe. It seeks to understand the nature of space, time, matter, and energy, as well as the forces that govern their behavior. In many religions, cosmology plays a central role in shaping beliefs about the creation of the world and the place of humans within it. For example, in Shintoism, the indigenous religion of Japan, cosmology is closely tied to notions of kami, or divine spirits, that are believed to inhabit natural phenomena such as rocks, trees, and rivers. According to Shinto belief, these kami created the universe and continue to shape its destiny, guiding humans in their interactions with the natural world. In this way, cosmology serves as a framework for understanding the relationship between the divine, the human experience, and the broader cosmos.
