Religious Studies
Religious Studies is an academic field dedicated to the exploration and analysis of religious beliefs, practices, texts, artifacts, and institutions across different cultures and historical periods. It encompasses various disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, comparative religion, ethics, history, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and theology. The study of religion in the context of education entails the development of critical thinking skills, empathy, intercultural understanding, and ethical awareness. Religious Education refers to the formal teaching of religious knowledge and values within a particular faith tradition, while College Education involves higher learning in various fields, including Religious Studies. A Religious Studies program in college typically includes courses on the history and comparative analysis of religions, ethics, philosophy of religion, mythology, ritual studies, gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, and globalization. The aim of Religious Studies is to provide students with a nuanced understanding of religious diversity, pluralism, and interfaith dialogue, as well as the role of religion in shaping individual and collective identities, values, and worldviews.
