Invertebrates
Invertebrates are animals that lack a vertebral column, or backbone. They make up the vast majority of animal species on Earth and can be found in a wide range of habitats, from the depths of the ocean to the forest floor. Invertebrates come in many shapes and sizes, from tiny insects to giant squids. They play vital roles in ecosystems as predators, prey, and decomposers. Examples of invertebrates include insects, spiders, worms, jellyfish, and snails.
