Protein Synthesis
Protein synthesis is the process by which cells create proteins, using the information encoded in DNA and RNA as a blueprint. In transcription, the DNA sequence is copied into a complementary RNA molecule, which then serves as the template for protein synthesis. During protein synthesis, the RNA molecule is translated into a chain of amino acids, which fold into a specific three-dimensional structure to form a functional protein. This process takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell and is essential for growth, development, and maintenance of all living organisms. It represents the final step in gene expression and plays a crucial role in the functioning of cells and organisms.
