Marine biology, as part of physiology within zoology and science, focuses on the study of organisms in the ocean and other large bodies of salt water. It investigates how these creatures function, grow, reproduce, and behave, taking into account factors such as pressure, temperature, light levels, and salinity that are unique to their aquatic habitats. Marine biologists may specialize in specific groups of organisms, like mammals, fish, or plankton, or explore particular environments, such as coral reefs, deep-sea vents, or the polar ice caps. Their work often involves field research, laboratory analysis, and modeling to understand and predict the impacts of human activities and environmental changes on marine life and ecosystems.
