Immunology

Definition of Immunology as it relates to Science, Medicine, Virology

Immunology is the study of the immune system, which defends the body against infectious organisms and other invaders. As part of virology, it focuses on how the immune system responds to viruses and how these interactions contribute to viral pathogenesis and disease. Immunological studies in virology encompass both innate and adaptive immunity, examining the mechanisms by which the immune system recognizes and eliminates viral particles, as well as the strategies viruses use to evade or manipulate host defenses. Research in this area has broad implications for medicine, informing the development of vaccines, antiviral therapies, and diagnostic tools.
