Flipped Classroom

Definition of Flipped Classroom as it relates to Education, Instructional Technology, Teaching Methods

A flipped classroom refers to an instructional approach in which students learn new content online by watching video lectures, usually at home, and what used to be homework (assigned problems) is now done in class with the teacher’s assistance. The term "flip" signifies a reversed learning environment where direct instruction moves from the group learning space to individual learning spaces. This allows for the application of concepts learned online during classroom time. Flipped classrooms are supported by educational technology and teaching methods that foster student engagement, active learning, critical thinking skills, and peer-to-peer interaction.
