Definition of Environmental Education as it relates to Education, Home Economics Education, Middle School Education

Environmental Education refers to the process of imparting knowledge and fostering skills, values, and attitudes necessary to understand and appreciate the natural world and its interconnections with human existence. It encompasses various disciplines including biology, ecology, geography, and chemistry, among others, and integrates them into a cohesive framework for learners to explore and engage with environmental issues. The focus of Environmental Education is not only on the acquisition of scientific facts but also on the development of critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and ethical decision-making in relation to the environment. It can take place in various settings such as schools, homes, community centers, and nature parks, and can be tailored to different age groups, including middle school education and home economics education. Ultimately, Environmental Education aims to empower individuals to become responsible stewards of the environment and contribute to its sustainable management for future generations.
