Ecological Restoration
Ecological restoration refers to the process of actively assisting the recovery and management of ecosystems that have been degraded, damaged, or destroyed. It involves the re-establishment of native species, habitats, and ecological processes in order to return an ecosystem to its historic trajectory or a close approximation thereof. This may involve removing invasive species, reintroducing native species, modifying land use practices, and implementing various management strategies to promote ecological integrity and resilience. The goal of ecological restoration is not merely to preserve remnant habitats but to actively restore and enhance the health, function, and sustainability of entire ecosystems for both human and non-human benefit. It is a multidisciplinary field that draws upon principles from biology, ecology, geology, hydrology, soil science, engineering, and social sciences.
