Minimalism

Definition of Minimalism as it relates to Art, Performance Art, Action Art

A happening is an art form characterized by its ephemeral and unpredictable nature, often taking place in a non-traditional setting and involving audience participation. It is typically created through improvisation and spontaneity, with the artist serving as a facilitator rather than a traditional author. The focus of a happening is on the experience of the participants and the interactions between them, rather than on a finished product or object. This form of art emerged in the 1950s and 60s as a reaction against the commercialization of the art world and the slick production values of contemporary art. It is closely related to performance art and action art and often incorporates elements of both.
