Minimalism

Definition of Minimalism as it relates to Art, Conceptual Art, Modern Art

De Stijl, also known as Neoplasticism, is an artistic movement founded in the Netherlands in 1917 by painters Theo van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian. It is characterized by its use of primary colors, black and white, and straight lines and rectangular forms to create a sense of harmony and order. De Stijl artists aimed to express a new utopian ideal of spiritual harmony and order through their work, which they believed could be achieved through the simplification and abstraction of form and color. The movement had a significant influence on modern art and design, particularly in the fields of architecture and furniture design.
