Definition of Contemporary Art as it relates to Art, Conceptual Art, Postmodern Art

Suprematism is an art movement characterized by abstract geometric forms, bold colors, and minimal compositions, originating in Russia around 1915-1916. It aimed to express pure artistic feeling, devoid of any symbolic or narrative content, and sought to explore the fundamental elements of painting such as shape, color, and line. The movement was founded by Kazimir Malevich, who believed that art should be based on "the supremacy of pure artistic feeling" rather than on the imitation of external reality. Suprematist compositions often feature simple geometric shapes such as squares, circles, lines, and triangles arranged in a seemingly random or haphazard manner, creating a sense of movement and dynamism. The use of bold colors and strong contrasts further enhances the visual impact of these works, which are intended to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. Suprematist art has been influential in various subsequent movements, including Constructivism, De Stijl, and Minimalism.
