Definition of Amphibians as it relates to Animals
Amphibians are cold-blooded vertebrates that spend their early life in water and later on land. They metamorphose from aquatic larvae into terrestrial adults. This group includes frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians. Amphibians play a crucial role in the ecosystem as both predators and prey, controlling insect populations and serving as food for larger animals. They are sensitive to environmental changes due to their permeable skin and dependence on moisture, making them important indicators of environmental health.
