Definition of Toxicology as it relates to Health, Environmental Health

Toxicology is the scientific study of harmful effects on living organisms, including humans, from chemical, physical, and biological agents. It encompasses a broad range of disciplines such as biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, and epidemiology to understand how toxic substances interact with living systems at various levels, from the molecular to the population level. The field is concerned with both acute and chronic exposures to these agents, and seeks to identify, quantify, and control the risks associated with such exposures in order to protect human health and the environment.
